In community...a benefit doundounba party

benefit party for Mohamed Andre Duranteau

Date: Saturday, May 1, 2010
Time: 6:00-9:00pm
Location: Lynda Raino Dance Studio

Please join us in a doundounba dance party organized to help our brother, friend and teacher, Mohamed Andre Duranteau of Wontanara Drum & Dance, on his journey back home to Guinea.

In Guinea, West Africa, a doundounba is a community event where people gather to mark an occasion with drumming and dancing. In the spirit of this tradition, the African dance community in Victoria is having a doundounba to show our love and support for Mohamed Andre Duranteau, who is needing to travel home to Conakry, Guinea because of his father's terminal illness.

Due to the recent news of his father's deteriorating health, Mohamed has had to act quickly and so its left him struggling to find enough money in time to properly help out not only his father but his entire family who has bared a lot of emotional and financial stress due to his father's illness.

Mohamed will be heading to Conakry at the beginning of May to see and take care of his father, Charles Duranteau.

This doundounba will also double as pre-party for Sunday's AbunDANCE Dance-a-thon!
Sunday May 2nd at Victoria Dance Connection there is a dance-a-thon to help raise money for Matoto & Easter Seals. For more info see our events page.

Doundounba is by donation.
Contact Marielle at 250-885-6315 for more info.

**Can't make it to the doundounba but you'd still like to make a donation? Throughout the month of May there will be a donation jar for Mohamed's family at Sh:ft Natural Fashion, 547 Johnson Street.
